Foundation’s mission and goals

 

Goals of the Foundation established under the Act of 1925.

 

The “Zakłady Kórnickie” Foundation was established to fulfill the ideas of organic work, which were carefully nurtured by its Founders and their families.

 

In 1925, these ideas were understood as follows:

 

1.      Maintenance and development of the Women’s Home Work School, founded in Kórnik on 24thJune1882, banished by the Prussian government and transferred to Lubałów in Spiż, to Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, to Bystre in Zakopane, and finally to Kuźnice on 11thJune1891, based on the principles on which it had been founded and for over forty years developed despite persecution and expulsion.

2.      Supporting the upbringing of male youth in the Polish and Catholic spirit.

3.      Aid for higher education for exceptionally talented people, to be reimbursed when they start earning money.

4.      The maintenance of the Castle in Kórnik, in memory of what Poland suffered, how its sons served the homeland keeping and honoring the memory of the noblest among strangers, who used their virtues for Poland, turned out to be its friends in the times of persecution and the most severe oppression.

5.      Maintenance of the Kórnicka Library, placing its publications under care.

6.      Establishment and maintenance of the Research Department, both on the slopes of the mountains and on the plains, of everything that comes within the scope of breeding, life, protection and proper employment of all types of trees, both domestic and foreign in the country, possibly useful, plants of garden, orchard, utilitarian or ornamental ones, their wood, fruit, leaves and juices. Care over the Kórnik gardens.

7.      Propagation of agricultural professional knowledge and cooperative principles in the Catholic and national spirit in the Zakłady Kórnickie estates.

8.      Industrialization and raising the value of the Zakłady Kórnickie estates, drainage, which the Curators and the Board will have special regard of.

 

In 2001, when the Parliament of Poland adopted the Act on the restitution of the Foundation, its goals and mission were reformulated, adapting to the reality of the end of the 20th century. Currently, the following objectives are in place:

 

1.      Supporting and development of modern agriculture through the dissemination of agricultural culture, education, valuable agrotechnical solutions and running model farms.

2.      Acting for agricultural education and scientific research activity by establishing agricultural schools, supporting modern education, funding scholarships, organizing activities which promote rational management of agricultural resources.

3.      Promoting the idea of organic work.

4.      Acting to improve the living and working conditions of residents related to the estates, residing in or near the estates, including supporting social initiatives.

5.      Supporting the facilities of the Polish Academy of Sciences – the Kórnik Library and the Institute of Dendrology.
